Armed with my arsenal of questions and goals, I began my hunt for an apartment. The place I had most success, actually, was Craigslist. I tried local newspapers and other rental sites, but everything I found was either way out of my budget or in bad neighborhoods. (You still may want to try those sites [...]

Until I was ten years old I thought that Michael Jackson was a white woman singer. He had a high voice and a pony tail so I thought his name was Michelle. My father raised me on Jackson 5 songs. However I was a young child listening to other children and I didn’t understand the [...]

I used to dream of being an academy award winning actress. Anytime I was in a place I didn’t want to be or doing something I found boring my mind would wonder off to big celebrity parties with my date of what ever heart throb I was crushing on at the time in toe. I [...]

Through out the course of my life people have consistently told me to be more confident and that if I believe in my self I can achieve anything. It’s true that positive self esteem is a beneficial trait to have, however I seem to get into a lot more trouble for having too high expectations [...]

It included a list of typical abbreviations used in apartment ads and things to ask and look out for when hunting. Very useful stuff. (alri.org has a good list [...]

The most important goal I had after graduating was moving out of my family’s house. I was a little behind in getting myself prepared for that. During college, a lot of my friends were already living in apartments off campus and had decent part time jobs. They already had one foot out the door. Me, [...]

Now that Jaimie has introduced herself, let me introduce myself—my name is Jess, also 25, and originally from the Jersey shore. My mantra for years has been, “Don’t do what your family did.” I love my mother dearly, but she made a lot of financial mistakes throughout her life that I don’t ever want to [...]

Currently I am 25 and I live in Northeast Philadelphia with five room mates who share my DNA. In other words I still live with my parents. I’m not living here to save money. I’m living here because I spent my college years in denial, and ended up $100,000 dollars in student loan debt. I [...]
